NATHAN AND GRACIE SPORTING THEIR NEW YOOPER CHOOKS. HOW CUTE ARE THEY?
My very FIRST attempt selling the Yooper Chooks. I made them all back then, and you could tell. Straight stitched sewing machine, uneven seams and no size labels. They weren't professional, but they were effective.
I just didn't know how they would sell, so I mustered up some gumption and did my first gig. Me and the chooks and my trustworthy Previa van.
I miss that van like crazy. Brother Ray found her for me, and I was always so grateful to him for that. She could go through anything and I always felt adventurous on those two-tracking roads. But, she just go so rusted underneath that she wasn't safe anymore. Frank Sambrook, my trusted mechanic, advised me to let her go, and I did. Strange how one can get attached to things.
Made the sign out of duct tape, and fuzzy fake fur on my living room floor.
And check out that comfy summer chair sitting on the ice like it belongs.
It was the Curtis Ice Festival on south Manistique Lake, and the morning started out warm. People were walking around with their jackets open and bareheaded. In twenty minutes, the weather turned to pure winter. People crammed my little card table and me, and I got busy!
I remember I had to pull over on a side road.
I didn't know what to do...
get out and dance.
My bins were almost empty, and I knew I was gonna save faces all over everywhere from then on out.
I decided to get out and dance.
I love my Yooper Chooks. Love each and every one that leaves my ownership. I tuck each one into its' envelope and send good wishes with it. I love how I know that the new owners will be smiling from under that facewarmer some day. Just like all those people who were out there on the frozen lake that day with me.
Because we truly are all in this together, and I'm so glad I can help.
So, Thanks for reading my little story. I hope everyone who gets their chook tells me their story about why they are smiling under that facewarmer. Because that's what people do when they use it. I know I do.
I love getting the photos, reading the stories and then sharing them.
Because we're all in this together.
Happy Winter Everyone.
